Comparing the Conditional Logit Estimates and True Parameters under Preference Heterogeneity: A Simulated Discrete Choice Experiment

چکیده

Health preference research (HPR) is the subfield of health economics dedicated to understanding value and health-related objects using observational or experimental methods. In a discrete choice experiment (DCE), utility in set may differ systematically between persons due interpersonal heterogeneity (e.g., brand-name medication, generic no medication). To allow for heterogeneity, probabilities be described logit functions with fixed individual-specific parameters. However, practice, study team ignore preferences estimate conditional (CL) model. this simulation study, we examine effects omitted variance correlations (i.e., heterogeneity) parameters on estimation coefficients, willingness pay (WTP), predictions. The simulated DCE results show that CL estimates have been biased depending structure used data generation process. We also found these biases coefficients led substantial difference true estimated WTP up 20%). further were similar each other was less than 0.08) regardless underlying structure. imply that, under from their means, differences can substantive estimates. More specifically, underestimated failure recognize bias HPR indirectly underestimates treatment, substantially reducing quality care. These findings important implications because remains widely practice.

Dynamic Pricing under a Logit Choice Model

We consider a stylized dynamic pricing model in which a monopolist prices a product to a sequence of customers, who independently make purchasing decisions based on the price offered according to a logit choice model. The parameters of the logit model are unknown to the seller, whose objective is to determine a pricing policy that minimizes the regret, which is the expected difference between t...

Developing attributes and levels for a discrete choice experiment on basic health insurance in Iran

Background: Nonmarket stated preferences valuation, especially discrete choice experiments (DCEs), is one of the commonly used techniques in the health sector. The primary purpose of this approach is to help select attributes and attributes-levels that are able to properly describe health care products or services. This study aimed at developing attributes and attributes-levels for basic health...

On the Equivalence of Location Choice Models: Conditional Logit, Nested Logit and Poisson

It is well understood that the two most popular empirical models of location choice conditional logit and Poisson return identical coefficient estimates when the regressors are not individual specific. We show that these two models differ starkly in terms of their implied predictions. The conditional logit model represents a zero-sum world, in which one region's gain is the other regions' loss....
